Gardening

Before and after! Look at how the garden has taken off! Those zucchini plants in the top right corner are kinda taking over...

Look at these precious little tomatoes! Yay tomatoes!

Green pepper plant. See those little peppers? Hurry up so I can put you on a kabob and eat you! :)

Busy Busy!

Whew! We've been busy this weekend! I've tried on bridesmaids dresses, we've done yard work, and home repair, we also bought a grill!

I also switched out the bedding from this post

I think I like it. It gives it a "pop". So now I am on the look out for bedding for our room...

So I mentioned we did yard work. We cleaned out all the flower beds and got them ready for new mulch and flowers. I plan to work on that this week since I am out of work! :)

Notice my thumb in the third pic... oops! Don't you think a nice new layer of mulch will be nice? I am read for this grass to turn green... come on grass!

Check out these 2 pictures. Beautiful pear tree in our backyard blooming, my lovely front door with 2 flower pots waiting for flowers to be planted, and a hanging strawberry basket.

Hmmmm... We have a dilemma

So you know the picture of the Master Bedroom I posted online when we moved in?

Love it huh? We received this as a wedding gift and I saved it in its packaging until we moved into the new house, at the very end of October.

Fast forward to this past week when I took it to have it cleaned. I learned a very valuable lesson with my last comforter, they do not fit in top loading machines. At all. So I have made it a point to always take my comforter to have it cleaned. Well it came back and the corner seams are ripped and the filling is coming out! I convinced the cleaners to drop the cleaning charges but I know they didn't ruin the comforter because the sheets that went with this set have already started to ravel too... horrible quality.

UGH! Look at the dates, end of Oct - Mid March? Hello, less than 6 months and this is ruined? I am really upset about it because of course we registered for the matching curtains, and throw pilllows... what do I do with this?

So I am thinking of repairing the comforter and putting the whole set (throw pillows, curtains and all) in the guest bedroom. The green stripe in the bedding will go nicely with the green color in this room. And we do not have company too often, so I think it will work well in there.

But this set looks really bad in the Master, because it is painted blue. Plus this set has no curtains and was kinda inexpensive so I might be put in the linen closet and we'll pick out something new for our room.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Busy in 2010

Matt and I have been SO busy today. We were unable to go to a cocktail party tonight (Congrats Allison and Chase) because after moving a massive piano we just got into a make over mood! I am so glad we got in this mood! Here's what we did all in one day!

Here's the piano... It was FREE from Daddy! Thanks Daddy! I can't wait to get it tuned and practice...

While dad was here I asked him to help me put the bed together that I had refinished. This thing was just a bunch of junk until I painted it... $20 well spent and a big Thank to Amy and Hollie for switching a Queen bed for this Full, it fits in the room SO much better! Matt also put that little IKEA night table together today...

Since Matt and I were in Charlotte celebrating New Year's with the McDermott's we thought it might be best to find some artwork/small furniture for the house. This super cute mirror was like $19.99! I love IKEA!

Message Center from IKEA. This handy dandy item was only $14.99 and its a chalkboard and magnetic! Love it! See my cute little apron hanging on the hook, perfect.

We also got this at IKEA. Put this bad boy together today and I really love it behind our couch. I can't wait to fill all the cubbies with cute little things!

We also hung a few items, wedding gift from Stephanie & Chris and then the signature frame from our wedding :)

Matt also got this little computer desk together. Hopefully tomorrow I can get a picture of Matt's office completed. We have a few more items to hang in there...

As you can see it was a busy day in the Quinn house! Hoping for a lazy Sunday, since I have to go back to work Monday...

Elbow Grease

So I accidentally got spray adhesive on our hardwood floors... whoops. And I have been thinking about the best way to get it off... Goo Be Gone? That could ruin the finish...

So I turned to my most trusted friend...

Anyways, after typing in "removing spray adhesive from hardwood floors" into the search box up came a forum where people were discussing just that...

I read that Goo Be Gone can mess with the finish of the floor... crap, good thing I didn't just go ahead and use it :)

But then I read something that I really loved... Vegetable oil and a bit of elbow grease will take it right up! I couldn't believe it! But guess what folks? IT WORKED! Thank goodness!

Thanks Google!

Anyone else have a great tip to make life easier? I found another one this morning when I had noticed my Swiffer Sweeper stunk at collecting pet hair, it just pushed it away! Spritz with a bit of water and ta da, pet hair sticks to it!

Man, I love intersession :)

Monday Madness

What a day! Mom and I left Sanford at 8:30am to go to IKEA to get a table for my kitchen. We decided to stop at Furnitureland South to check their outlet center since it was on the way... What a place! I have NEVER seen so much furniture! Matt and I have to go back there to check out pictures and coffee tables. I did see one table that I liked but it did not have a leaf, and I would really like to have a table with one...

So we continued on...

Now I knew that Charlotte had a Rooms To Go Outlet, so we checked there. Great things, super prices, but no colors I liked...

So on we went...

To IKEA!

Now let me say that I picked up many fantastic things, like 4 picture ledges to go by our TV

Also picked up one of these for the kitchen... Kari & Nathan might recognize this :)

A magnetic knife strip (since the last one didn't survive the move that well), that I plan on turning into something adorable like this! *Which makes me think I can cover the ugly metal board for the kitchen... Plan to try that over break!* I also have colored knives like these, I love TJMaxx...

I quickly unwrapped this little goodie and put it beside my lovely chair...

What a great place for my magazines!

Plus a great cutting board, and a few little Christmas gifts...

I bet you are thinking, "Didn't you go for a kitchen table?"

Why yes, yes I did... in fact, I even bought the table and chairs... but they would not fit in the vehicle we took (even though I really thought it would). And even after lots of attempts to get it back to Sanford somehow (thanks Jeremy, Phillip, and Adam) it just would work. So I had to walk back into IKEA and return them all... thanks Mom for dealing with all that... what a mess.

So I am back to craigslist... I have decided, if I haven't found a table locally by New Year's Eve, then we will just take a truck to Adam and Lindsay's party and go to IKEA the next day :) Problem solved.

Home Happenings

Matt and I are still getting things straightened out with our new home. I am finding lots of great deals on Craigslist. I love it, like a daily treasure hunt! :) Here was my latest find...

Only $120 and it is solid wood! :) Matches our cabinets perfectly!

Matt also got a desk...

There are a lot of pieces to this desk... Next purchase is bookcases for his office and a dining room table to match the hutch.

Sewing Studio

Introducing my Sewing Studio...

I think I am in love. The colors are perfect, the size is great, all that I need to do now is get some things hung on the wall...

Furniture

Check it off the list! We bought our living room furniture tonight! We ended up with a sweet darkish leather sectional. Now to look for a coffee table and a cool rug.

Oh, and remember this chair?

It will be in my house in 3-6 weeks! :)

Sewing Studio Thoughts

I've been sick the last few days... fever, sore throat, congestion, no appetite... blah. Test negative for Flu and Step (that's a relief), dr. thinks it is just a virus.

So between naps and gatorade sips I have been thinking about my new sewing studio. My dear sister helped me paint both spare rooms last weekend (see pics in previous post). Now my cutting table, sewing machine desk, and bookcase have been moved into my Sewing Studio (don't you just love that name?)

So I have been thinking about all the ways to store the fabric I have. I am thinking that I am going to go with the comic book cardboard technique...

Don't ya just love this? Little mini bolts! Some have been homemade out of cardboard, and others have used comic book cardboard inserts. I think they are like $9.00 for 100 inserts, seems like a seriously good deal for all that organization!

Whew!

Hey Blog Fans!

Sorry I have been MIA. We've moved, we were without internet for awhile and well we were busy! :) But I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaack.... let's look at the past few days.

Tuesday: Let's see... we signed our closing paperwork in the morning and moved all of our furniture and things Tuesday day/night. We had a lot of help from a lot of people: Big Thanks to: Daddy, Rhonda, Patti, Mike, Gmom and Gpa Quinn, Mom, Nema, Alex and Dylan! We couldn't have done it without you guys!
Got our Master Bedroom set-up first so we could get a good nights sleep!

Wednesday: Stayed at home thanks to a very late night and achy back. Matt and Daddy got the TV in the house and all of our clothes.

Thursday: Back to work and 1,001 Books Night at School. Back home to have cable and internet hooked up! Yes!

Friday: Work, then out to the sticks to clean the rental house and turn in the keys. Rushed home to meet Matt's mom and dad for dinner for Rick's Bday. Had a lovely dinner at a great Italian place in the area. When we got back from dinner I went to Super Walmart and bought paint and painting supplies.

Saturday: My sister Rhonda was knocking on my door at 8am to start painting. We had to run to Walmart to get a few things that I forgot the night before (like a sanding block because the patched holes were not sanded down). We got both spare rooms painted and 2 dog doors installed (Mom and Daddy came and helped with that).

So now Matt and I are passing out Halloween candy and meeting the neighbors. We are lucky, in our cul-da-sac we have some great neighbors. Everyone I have met has been so friendly and helpful! I feel like this is going to be a great neighborhood for us :)
