Couch to 5k

I have decided, I need to be more active.

Thus, I have decided to start a 9 week workout that promises, couch to 5k. It is a downloadable app on my iPhone. I am pretty stoked about it. You can check it out here

I went tonight and got a couple of running tanks, I do need some new running shoes. So I suppose I will get those next week with the extended year money I earned :)

Tomorrow I plan to get an armband to hold my iPhone. The one I bought at Walmart tonight is for an iTouch and the headphone hole is in the wrong place... oops.

This is the one I want... pretty huh? It is the Belkin Sport Armband Plus with FastFit for iPhone

So I am hoping to start my new workout on Monday. We'll see how it goes :)

Couponing!

Its no surprise that I love Harris Teeter, after all they have been Friday Friend...

Here's why I love the Teeter so much...

All these groceries only cost $47.13! Including 3 full size boxes of cereal, a $10 family pack of chicken breasts, $9 pack of adult beverages, paper towels, produce and tons of other yummy things! I am very happy with my purchases today and the fact that I used 64.77 in coupons. Thank you triple coupons!!!

I did 2 other money saving things I did this morning besides couponing. I switched my prescription from CVS to Walgreens because I received a $25 coupon in the mail to transfer a prescription, and then they also had coupons in that same mailer for a free bottle of asprin, 20 free digital prints, and another $5 off coupon.

I also checked out books from the library. Buying cook books and magazines can be so expensive, Matt and I try to rent most books that we want to read (when we can't rent we use Amazon or Borders (they send out 25% off very often). Our local library also has a magazine box where you can recycle gently used magazines and trade them for ones you haven't read. I really like this because I love magazines! Just got a March Martha Stewart Living out of there today ;)

Busy!

Yesterday was a very productive day! I am so pleased with all the things I was able to complete! Thank goodness for a Snow Day!

As you can see from Wordless Wednesday 40 I made 3 onesies for different folks, and 2 name tag lanyards for a friend and myself. I think they turned out sure cute! I am seriously thinking I should have seasonal ones... someone stop me! ;)

I also finished a quilt. Yes, I didn't post pictures of it because its owner has not seen it yet. I hope to get it to them very soon and then I can post some pictures.

I've also picked a quilt design out for Matt and I that I plan to start over break (as long as an order doesn't pop up). It is a design that Sarah and I found at the quilt show. I finally got the triangle template Sarah! :) Here is an example:

This was found on Flickr

I plan on using a lot of blues and greens (shocked I know). Here is a picture of the pattern itself.

Its called a Merry-Go-Round Quilt and it is by American Jane

I am very excited for tonight... Brand New Office! YES! Good bye Olympics, hello good TV! I am also happy to announce that we have really had great success with meal planning this week! Each day Matt and I have had lunch (from leftovers) and a delicious dinner! I hope we can keep it up!

Simply Saturday...

Saturdays are wonderful. Especially Saturdays when we have nothing really planned. We got up around 9:45 and had waffles (my fav). Then after relaxing and ordering some books online from the library (love that) I decided to make something in my new crockpot.

As some of you might know, I ordered a new crockpot online last week. It is one with a timer! I love that! You set the time and when it reaches that time it turned to low. Perfect! So what I decided to make was homemade applesauce since I had a whole bag of apples that needed be used.

So I found a recipe here: http://www.barbarabakes.com/2009/10/crockpot-applesauce.html

Pretty picture from the website...

Sadly, I didn't have 5 of each type, I had 10 Gala, so that is what I went with. I will let you know how it turns out...

Right now we are a little more than an hour in to the cooking time and the house smells fantastic! Come on applesauce!

UPDATE!

Homemade Applesauce = Delicious!
Funny how Dad showed up at just the time it was complete... haha! I also got to use my most awesome $3.00 purchase from the Thift Store, an emulsion blender. It came with all the parts, instruction book, and the plastic was still on everything, including the little twist tie on the cord! Mega find! Worked great too!

Anyways, I was half way through my little ramekin when I realized I should take a picture, so here is a not so good iPhone pic.

I Love Blogs :)

I love blogs. Writing them, reading them, bookmarking them, commenting on them, etc, etc, etc! Matt reads books, I read blogs. They are full of such wonderful ideas!

Down the right hand side of our blog is a blog roll of the blogs I check daily... yes all of those :) Actually, I have added more to my blog roll bookmark folder... so many.

Which has had me worrying, what if I was to loose them? What would I do! I have got to do better about backing them up... Now I can do that a million times easier thanks to Google Bookmarks little toolbar link.

Oh the joys of organizing things! I foresee many, many, many hours spent backing up my bookmark folder just in case... :)

Snow Day Monday

What a productive snow day! After sleeping in (yay), and hearing that Matt safely got to work, I had a little lunch and got busy. I completely finished Cindy's quilt, and made a cute cute cute baby shower gift. Can't post pictures of either due to the fact that the owner's have not seen them yet.

So as I was sewing away, my cell phone starts blowing up with text messages... I am like what in the world is going on? So I pick up the phone and it says, "2 hr delay tomorrow and school on Saturday" -Dixie. Excuse me? My eyes can't be reading this right, so I call her. It is true she says, get online and check the school webpage. And there it is, make up snow day Saturday, Feb. 6th.

So there you have it folks, I will be at school on Saturday.

Yes, I'm Here

Hey Everybody!

Sorry I've been MIA... between getting the house ready for the house warming party, having the house warming party and cleaning up from the house warming party... we've been busy!

I have been meaning to share this little gem for a few weeks now and it always slips my mind. Looking for a quick dinner that is super yummy and pretty inexpensive? Of course you are! Try this recipe... it is SO good!

Tortilla Soup

**Edit**- There seems to be something wrong with the link above... Here is the recipe:

  • 1 can (10-1/2 ounces) condensed chicken with rice soup, undiluted
  • 1-1/3 cups water
  • 1 cup salsa
  • 1 cup canned pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup canned black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup frozen corn
  • 1 cup frozen diced cooked chicken
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Crushed tortilla chips, shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream
In a large saucepan, combine the first eight ingredients. Cook over medium-high heat for 5-7 minutes or until heated through. Serve with tortilla chips, cheese and sour cream. Yield: 5 servings.

Help Others By Helping Yourself... Its the Celebrity Way!

A very funny thing happened at the lunch table today. We were talking about celebrities donating money to Haiti and Jill makes the comment, "You know Tiger should donate a lot of money and maybe people will think better of him" And I add, "Yeah and Kayne West too!" Big laughs from everyone...

Turns out while we were joking at school, Tiger was buying a 3 million dollar mobile hospital. Buy 2 more Tiger, I might like you again!

So as a guest blogger today, Jill and I have joined comedic forces and are co-writing this blog post via Facebook. Here to hoping a bit of humor raises awareness for this important cause! Enjoy!

Top Celebrities Who Should Donate Money to Haiti to Help Their Image...

Chris Brown- Hey Chris Brown, Remember when you beat Rihanna? Yeah, we do too... maybe you should donate something.

Jon Gosslin- Jon, just use 1/2 of you Ed Hardy T-Shirt budget and you can save millions!

Kate Gosslin- Kate, you might have a new do but your still a overbearing, control freak... donate something. Call it locks for love!

Charlie Sheen- Oh Charlie Sheen... The judge says you can't be anywhere near your wife, so why not take a little trip to help others in Haiti.

Michael Phelps- Michael, you are probably most loved on this list... we hear CashforGold.com plays lots for your unused gold. Since those medals are "tarnished", they sure could bring a lot of cash for the people of Haiti...

Mel Gibson- Mel, what can we say... Pony up, its gonna take a BIG check.

Tom Cruise- Hey Tom, you know what would make us jump up and down on the couch? You donating money.

Alec Baldwin- Alec, your hilarious but can't leave voicemails like that about your own kid. Why not use your cell to text HAITI to 90999?

Heidi Montag, Lindsay Lohan, Jersey Shore Crew, etc- Your 15 minutes is running, pay up and you might get 15 more. The more you donate the more time you can be on TV, because we all know that is what you love... fist pumps for saving lives!

David Letterman- Dave, you wanna really be #1 of Late Night? Donate some dough!

Jay Leno- Jay, take a vacation and head down to Haiti, it might brighten your image.

Mark Sanford- Hey Mark, why don't you "hike" on down and help out! We know its not the Appalachian Trail but I think your wife and state would approve of this trip.

Palin Clan- We know you can't see Haiti from your house but they are there and they need help. Think of what a hefty donation would do for 2012...

All joking aside, every little bit helps. Please see yesterday's blog post to find a way you can help and be a bigger celebrity then these fools.
